I am a general surgeon with a couple of special interests. Surgeons have a fairly long training program learning how to do things but more importantly how not to. It is an old fashioned apprenticeship with surgical knowledge handed down from a long line of surgeons. There is a surgical tradition of teaching what you know to the young whiper snappers who will eventually take your job. You start out as one and end up as the other. I owe all my surgical teachers as every surgeon does.
